The Christian Journey Episode 3

“And I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:3).

Grace and peace from the Father God and our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. I thank the Lord God who by His sovereign power has made this episode a success. This is the third episode of “The Christian Journey” entitled “The Wrong Vehicles”.

There are a lot of right vehicles needed for the Christian as mentioned in the previous episodes however, there are some obviously wrong vehicles; things that destroy the Christian when he puts his life in them. These include laziness, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. LAZINESS is one of the attitudes that destroys the Christian’s life. Laziness does not accomplish work therefore the Christian’s life can never be successful with laziness. We must beware that we are not doing the Lord’s work unto men instead unto the Lord God therefore it must be done with much faithfulness and diligence. No one would enjoy something in the kingdom of God that he has not worked for, let us therefore lay aside laziness and enter into the Lord’s vineyard and work; the Christian life is not about enjoyment but it’s full of work. ‘But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working”’ (John 5:17). As Christians, we are workers in the Lord’s vineyard so when you decide not work, the wall surrounding the vineyard may breakdown hence, animals and the wicked one will get access to the crops and destroy them. The Christian is responsible for the welfare of the colleague Christians therefore when we cease to do this work, Satan who is the wicked one will get access to them and destroy them. Out of laziness, thorns will also grow in the midst of the crops and inhibit their growth. You are not too small or too big to do this work. Spread the Gospel, visit the sick, clothe the naked, feed the hungry, exercise humility, visit the prisoners and all that you can do in the Lord’s vineyard.

One of the ways the wicked one is using to sway people from their Christian paths unto his shameful ways is the love of the world. The love of the world is contrary to the love of the Father; when the love of the world dwells in you, it resists the love of the Father from dwelling in you because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world. “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:19-21). As Christians on a journey, we must make every effort to crucify the flesh with its passions and desires and rather put on the Lord Jesus Christ, walk in the Spirit and make no provisions for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

The pride of life is one of the desires of the flesh. This comes through selfish ambitions; convincing yourself that you are more wise than others. The Spirit that is in you is the same Spirit that is in all. This is one of the aspects that destroys the Christian slowly. When one pays attention to this, he gradually loses the grace of God. For God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. King Nebuchadnezzar was one of the personalities in the Old Testament who was a captive of pride. He was manifesting this pride until he was resisted by God; however, he received grace when he decided to be humbled. As a Christian on a journey, do not measure yourself above others and do not see others as unwise compared to yourself instead, with much humility, work in harmony with everyone because when you see yourself as an “all in all” you will make a big mistake in this journey.

May Sovereign God grant you the power to resist the world and its desires and pursue the right vehicles; faithfulness, Holiness, Obedience and others that will convey you safely to the destination.
